On February 15, 2018, the Third District Court of Appeal held the Annual Pinning Ceremony to recognize the commitment of staff members that reached years of service milestones.

The ceremony was followed by the Fifth Annual Members-Only Ice Cream Social hosted by the Third DCA Historical Society.

Judge Vance E. Salter received the 2018 Distinguished Judicial Service Pro Bono Award
The Honorable Vance E. Salter received the prestigious Distinguished Judicial Service Award, presented by Chief Justice Jorge Labarga on January 25, 2018, at the Florida Supreme Court. This award was in recognition of Judge Salter’s outstanding and continuous support, contribution, and commitment to pro bono services and the community as a whole. Judge Salter, who has been called “The Ambassador of Pro Bono,” is the first person to be honored with the Tobias Simon Pro Bono Service Award (1998) and, now, the Distinguished Judicial Service Award.

On December 13, 2017, Judges Fernandez, Luck and Lindsey, met with 15 law students from Victoria University (Australia), who were visiting FIU College of Law for the 2-week Intensive Course “Law and Dispute Resolution in the United States of America: Litigation, Arbitration, and Mediation” .

Effective Monday, 12/18/17, the entrance to the courthouse is relocated to the East side of the property through Tamiami Park. Access this temporary entrance using the road off S.W. 117th Avenue between the batting cages and Coral Way. Signs have been posted along the way.

ABOTA's program with the Third District Court of Appeal
ABOTA strives to educate and inspire students to have knowledge of and respect for the United States Constitution, our system of justice and the value of an independent judiciary.  To promote interest in law and civics education, ABOTA provides students and teachers with court visits, presentations, roundtables and workshops, such as the current programs with the Third District Court of Appeal, James Otis Lecture presentation for high school students, and the Teachers Law School for public school teachers. Through these efforts, ABOTA aims to provide teachers and students with a better understanding and appreciation of the Seventh Amendment right to a civil jury trial.
